Ladies, it’s ok to be single but do you have a clue about what you’re doing? Let’s face it – there are four types of single women: the ones who are looking but haven’t found the right one, those who are just trying to have a good time, the complacent types who aren’t really sure what they want or need, and finally the ones who’ve been hurt so they choose not to be in a relationship. Each type of girl has problems and it’s especially difficult in our twenties, but we’ll use Sex and the City as a reference and offer some solutions.

Single gal 1: The Charlotte

Problem: You’re looking for the right one, but at times you’re so unrealistic and you may want a relationship to work so bad that you fall for the wrong person!

Solution: Remember what you want but don’t settle because you’re desperate (especially since you’re young!). Make the guy work for you because you’re so worth it. That way you’ll know he wants the same things you want.

Single gal 2: The Samantha

Problem: Although you’re having a great time with different guys sometimes you may encounter the guy who becomes clingy.

Solution: Keep open communication from the start and if a guy seems to be clingy and not on the same page with you, it’s time to let them go. Besides, your goal is to have a good time for the moment so make sure the other person is on the same page too.

Single gal 3: The Carrie

Problem: You’ve become complacent with love but you’re still looking. These two don’t go hand in hand.

Solution: Decide – either you’re complacent or you’re not. If you love someone and they don’t love you back, move on. Don’t be complacent.

Single gal 4: The Miranda

Problem: Oh boy, you’ve got some issues about love. You’ve been hurt before so you think every new guy you meet will hurt you so you give them a really hard time.

Solution: Trust that the right one will come along. Don’t lose your faith in love and please don’t hurt a good guy who’s just trying to love you.

Regardless of the type of single gal you are, please make sure you have open communication with yourself and whomever you’re involved with. Also, always remember your worth!

The influence of bloggers is growing rapidly every day with the ever-growing importance of social media. On Wednesday, Feb 20th, I received the amazing opportunity to speak to a group of entrepreneurs about how brands can pitch to bloggers. The goal of my presentation was to present ideas and tips on ways to create a mutually successful relationship between the two. Here is some advice I offered brands, which applies to bloggers as well.

Jodi Glickman (Great on the Job) kicked off the presentations with an admirable enthusiasm and practically stole the show with her charm and perhaps the most invaluable lesson: “Make people love you and they’ll want to do business with you.” It’s as simple as that and it begins with the introductory pitch: talk about your destination, back story and then connect the dots.

There were 30 people in attendance at VentureShot, founded by David Culver, who said his company brings together extraordinary entrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses and enhance their levels of success. We’ve signed up for their meet-ups in Chicago, which we highly recommend to those who are interested!

David spoke about investor pitches, which I found very interesting. He recommends explaining the “why” of your company and have a big finale where the investor feels crazy not to invest in you! He said the key is to keep it under four minutes, with the goal of securing a first or second meeting.

When it comes to sales pitches, Founder/Partner Bob Lambert (Samurai Business Group) highlighted a necessary point in saying many people are so passionate about their product but forget to focus on who you are trying to appeal to. “People can not replicate you and they can copy all they want!” Bob pointed out – a problem many of us entrepreneurs and bloggers can relate to.

Many of us entrepreneurs are nervous about approaching the media early on in our career and Tom Figel (Managing Partner at Lake Effect Communications) says do it! There’s a mutual assistance and trust that they offer.

I’ve attended several events hosted by EFactor Global, which connects one million entrepreneurs and Investors globally online and offline with info on social media, networking, events and funding, just to name a few. We highly recommend Efactor events as they are intimate, informative and happen in most major cities. Thanks to Jason Jacobsohn (moderator), who did a phenomenal job setting up another successful networking and panel discussion. We look forward to more in the future and connecting with like minded individuals.

For many young women in college there seems to be no end to the consuming question of “who am I?”, and the variations that appear in phrases such as, “who do I want to be?” The college environment lends itself to almost too many options, and four years does not seem like enough time to figure out these enormous “what ifs?” In many cases, the dreams that were vibrant back when you sat daydreaming in class suddenly lose their substance and many young women often find themselves backing away from a path that, at the time, seems too daunting. In turn, they take a new route that, while it may have the promise of a high-income at the end or a solid career, is the polar opposite of their heart’s real desires. But it is sometimes necessary to lose yourself in order to find out who you really are.

A good friend of mine, Emily Strubinger, a twenty-something, second-time college student, says that throughout her young adult life she had always been searching for who she was and a career that would fulfill her. Strubinger said she started her studies as a music major, then changed to philosophy, only to consider going into law school. Looking back, Strubinger believes that everyone goes through a phase wherein they “want to be a lawyer and make the big money.” This belief is shared by many young women who, for one reason or another, throw away their real dreams to pursue what society values – money and prestige. With society’s opinions distorting the view, it can make it hard to find who one really is. Other times, outside antagonists can make the once sure-footed student feel lost or incapable of completing his or her goal. With pressure applied on all fronts, it can seem as if dreams are unobtainable.

The feeling of drifting through life unsure of where one is headed and who one is in relation to a career is also an issue even after schooling. A job that might have first been thought of as the one you were “meant to be in” could turn out to be emotionally exhausting, resulting in a budding hatred towards your situation. Strubinger was met with similar challenges after graduation and was dissatisfied with where she was in life. Knowing something had to change, Strubinger took a leap of faith and did what many adults are afraid of – she returned to college. When asked what made her want to go back to school, she replied: “I wanted to pursue my real dream, becoming a vet, and to have a degree that would be employable. All the philosophy firms aren’t exactly hiring,” she said with a smile. To find oneself, it is necessary sometimes to become lost or take a different path.

The beautiful thing about the many paths before us is that we have the ability to choose which one we take. If a situation or career is not fulfilling, it is possible to return to college to pursue what we really want out of life. Too many times people feel as though their goals are unreachable because of one or two mistakes made or are cut down by the words of others. We have to remember that although there may be many voices telling us what they want us to hear, our own voice is what matters. The journey to finding yourself is not one with a ready map or compass, but rather made with your own map each day to use for guidance. We just can’t give up on the quest. When asked if finding yourself was an end goal or a lifetime process, Strubinger answered solemnly: “A lifetime process. When you’re little, everyone tells you to act like an adult. Then, you grow up to realize that adults don’t have it all together either. Finding yourself comes down to knowing what you want to really do and trying your best to do it.”
