Hey peeps! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. In case you’re not familiar with our new 22 year old fashion and news writer – Bree Gladd – here’s your chance to get to know the unique and beautiful mind behind these awesome posts! Her story is guaranteed to inspire you.

24B: Name, age, profession
BG: Bree Gladd, 22 – I’m a wedding consultant [and] of course a fashion editor at 24B. I also run a house cleaning business that I started right after I graduated high school. I have a few other creative projects in the works right now aaaaand I also fill in at an old job as a receptionist at a local chiropractic and wellness center.

24B: How did you become such a fearless 20-something?
BG: Honestly, I’m not even fearless. I just try to do things that make me at least a little bit nervous. I used to have terrible anxiety. At one point leaving my apartment was kind of rough. I was paranoid, depressed and scared. I was presented the opportunity to study abroad and even though I had plenty of reasons to convince myself I couldn’t do it, I pretty much just said, “screw it” and applied to school in London. It was exceptionally difficult at times, but it was definitely the best experience I’ve ever had. I’m a different person now, for sure.

24B: Share a beauty, fashion or lifestyle tip with us you believe every gal should know, especially 20-somethings. BG: Hmmmm, I’m going to have to go with a lifestyle tip. Figure out a way to practice mindfulness. Be aware of how you feel and why, the choices you’re making and why, the way you react and why, what you want and why, who’s in your life and why, if you want to make big changes and why. Life can get confusing and frustrating but if you practice awareness, less than favorable times become a bit more bearable.

24B: Tell us what makes you, you!
BG: That’s a hard question. It’s weird but I think my defining feature may be my anxiety. It effects a lot of things in my life, but it’s also what makes taking risks a huge reward, what makes me think a bit harder about my choices and what always ends up teaching me to lighten up. I’m really okay with it at this point, and sometimes even grateful. It’s taught me how to think in that “it is what it is” way.

24B: Would you call yourself an entrepreneur?
BG: I would and I wouldn’t. I worked for myself most of my life, but more importantly I’ve worked mostly for entrepreneurs. Each of my mentors has started something huge on their own and allowed me to be a part of it. I’ve enjoyed my house cleaning business but that is by no means where I want to stop. I think It’d be more comfortable calling myself an entrepreneur if I did something bigger. I can tell that it’s all been leading up to something really huge for me, and right now I’m on my way to figuring out what that is. 24B will of course know as soon as anything really hits the ground running.

24B: Finish this sentence: One lesson I’ve learned in my 20′s is….
BG: I’m capable of great things, the same way everyone else is. There’s no use waiting around for a huge sign or a push from somewhere, something or someone. The potential to do what you dream of is lying dormant, but if it stays that way; you’re the one that let it stay asleep.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Photo: The Man Repeller

She poses in photos with compelling outfits and a rather charming plastic flamingo named Pete, and has been known to embellish designer pieces with suspiciously shifty googly eyes. She is the keeper and voice behind the incredibly well-scripted high-fashion blog detailing how to dress in a way that will no doubt send men running in the other direction, which, in fashion, means you’re doing something right. Leandra Medine, or as many of you know her, The Man Repeller, is 24B’s Girl of the Month.

Leandra presents a number of important ideals that 20-somethings should take note of. This 23 year old fashion journalist goes against the status quo, breaks social rules to create her own, and is in a state of constant evolution to create a life that not only can be deemed successful, but also creative, thrilling and gratifying.

We’ve taken a few cues from The Man Repeller and turned them into 3 big ideas that you should apply to your own life.

The perfect style for you is one that you have created. For all the various designers and street style bloggers that have left us breathless when it comes to sartorial greatness, the daring choices of high-low expertise that Leandra demonstrates on a daily basis stand out among many. If you want to wear couture but can’t leave your denim, then don’t. Mix it up. Do something that someone else specifically instructed you not to. Make your own clothes; add googly eyes to them if you feel that, on their own, they don’t draw enough of a stare. Wear a custom Rebecca Minkoff leather jacket and platform Superga sneakers with your architecturally genius Marchesa wedding gown. Do what makes you feel good about walking through the frame of your front door and into the glorifying light of day, because when it comes down to it, you are the highest judge of your fashion choices. Not other women, not men, not any fashion editor and not any editorial stylist – not anyone else in the world but yourself.

Leandra with Danielle and Jodi Snyder of DANNIJO; Photo: The Man Repeller

To live a life you’re proud of, you have got to make it happen. Leandra began her journey in a place some of us are all too familiar with: as a student. More specifically for her, a student studying Journalism at Eugene Lang the New School for Liberal Arts. While still a student, she began blogging under the Man Repeller name and after some time was launched into a new stage in the fashion world thanks to a mention in the NY Times (NBD, right?). She then went on to write various pieces for Harper’s Bazaar, Lucky, The NY Post and Grazia. She’s participated in a variety of different collaborations with designers and brands such as DANNIJO, Del Toro, Rachel Roy, Bauble Bar and is currently working on a collection with PJK for Spring 2013. Leandra started with the same tools as every one of her peers (clearly a bit more innovation and drive) and used them to get the ball rolling towards the future she dreamed of. However far away you are from where you want to be, you can always pave a path to get there. No matter how far you’ve come, you can always keep moving up – you haven’t reached your limit until you say you have. Continue being innovative and continue building towards your goals. In the words of Earl Nightingale, “Don’t let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand if the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway.”

Photo: The Man Repeller

Create a life that you truly enjoy living. Enjoy what you do and if you don’t, find a way to change your circumstances. Leandra is constantly creating new partnerships and getting involved in new projects. She’s proactive, creative and uses all of her talents in a way that not only makes us laugh but assures us that her gorgeous smile is genuine. Our favorite part of following along in her endeavors? Seeing her have fun. From enforcing a “no crying” rule during Fashion Week’s Rebecca Minkoff Fashion Week Boot Camp video to creating the best rendition of “Call Me Maybe” we’ve seen so far with Rebecca Minkoff and Hilary Rhoda, Leandra is living life on her own terms and having fun with it. Be yourself and create conditions that encourage you to continue evolving and experimenting – surround yourself with people, places, hobbies, and ideas that will help you to perpetually cultivate the kind of authentic joy for life that each person deserves.

Ladies, meet Melissa Flores. If you’re a beauty blogger, you may have come across her jam packed site, SuperGlamNews (SGN), which is filled with beauty tips, product reviews and fun interviews with celebs and other bloggers she admires. To be a beauty expert you not only have to be beautiful, but also smart about which products to use to enhance your beauty inside and out. Melissa, only 22, knows just that which is why she’s our June GM. Read our extensive interview with the beauty queen to learn some interesting things about her take on beauty, health and blogging.

First, we have to know — what is a must-have beauty/fashion item you can’t live without
Everyone that knows me knows that I couldn’t live without bronzer.
A little hint of color goes such a long way and makes your skin glow.

In terms of health, which is important for real outer beauty – what do you believe every woman show know (especially 20 somethings)

You can try every product out there that promises you perfect, looking skin but at the end of the day there are much simpler solutions. Eating right and drinking tons of water really does make a difference on your body and skin. Once you’ve got that under control then trying out products and makeup gets a whole lot more fun.

When/How/Why did you start your blog?I started my blog February of 2010. As far back as I can remember I’ve been obsessed with beauty products. I was always at drugstores and beauty supply stores (even till this day) buying new things to try. I’ll end up with 7 different bronzers, 3 moisturizers and several different shades of nail polish. A blog was a way for me to share my experiences with different products and let others know if they’re worth it or not. I love being able to help someone, even if I just helped them pick out the perfect hair serum. I started the blog using WordPress and was driving myself crazy looking for a name. I wanted something that represented the things I write about and a name I would always love. My boyfriend actually came up with SuperGlam and I instantly thought the name was perfect.

What do you enjoy most about blogging? Why?
Blogging has allowed me to combine my two loves: beauty and writing. It doesn’t ever feel like work and I continue learning everyday. I also love all the people I’ve been lucky enough to meet and fellow bloggers like you Vanessa! Because of SuperGlamNews so many companies have introduced me to new products that I don’t think I would have known about if it weren’t for my blog. In return I get to share it with all of you beauty lovers.

Blogging is definitely rewarding. So you’ve just graduated, what will you do next?
This is a question I’ve asked myself for some time now. I go through several options, but at the end of the day they all go back to blogging. I’m going to continue putting all of my love and effort into my blog. I want to offer content that readers will always find interesting and beneficial.

Speaking of your readers, what do you hope to achieve with your blog?
I have so many things I want to do with SuperGlamNews. I would love for my blog to be thought of as THE place to go to for beauty advice and news related to it. If I could turn the content from SGN into a book that would also be a dream come true. I hope that by blogging I’m making the lives of other girls easier in some way. If I can introduce someone to a product they’ll love forever or give them an extra dose of confidence they were lacking that’s great too.

It’s so great to hear you want to give back… describe a lesson you’ve learned in your 20s.
I always thought that being young meant you couldn’t do much and you wouldn’t be taken seriously. Now is actually the time to go for the things you want and put yourself out there. In my 20’s I’ve learned how capable and worthy I am.

Knowing your worth is so important! Say 1 thing you like about 24B.
I love the variety of content 24B offers. There are different categories to choose from and you can always find something that is relatable. I also love all the images and colors. It’s impossible not to click on something.

Before we say goodbye, please tell us 3 things we should know about you1. I love the 40’s and 50’s
2. I use the color pink a lot, because I think it represents positivity and happiness
3. Having my own line of bronzers and hair extensions would be a dream

Thanks Melissa for being our GM this month! Yumnah says “after the first few pairs of earrings I painted, I was inspired to keep creating new pieces, and eventually launched the line and website. Now the line consists of earrings and necklaces.”
Yumnah will be a twenty something soon and we know she’ll be ready as she’s smart, confident and very sweet. Most of all, we love the relationship we’ve built with her. Read on to find out more about this GM and why we adore her so:

1. Share a must-have beauty/fashion item you can’t live without.
Diorshow Extase Mascara! I got it as a gift and I love it.

2. What or who inspires your work?
I get inspiration from all over. When I’m creating new pieces sometimes I’ll just sit and take in my surroundings and go from there. I can be looking at a book cover and love the color scheme or see a textile with a texture that I want to recreate. Lately, my main inspiration has come from observing nature. Just being outside there is so much beauty when you pay attention. It can be the color scheme of a flower or the sky and ocean at the beach.

3. What do you enjoy most about earring making? Why?
I love the process of creating new designs When I’m creating a lot of times I don’t have a set idea in mind. I just get inspired, pick up my paintbrush and start. I love the feeling of anticipation thinking of what the finished piece will be. Once its done its amazing to see a beautiful design that came from a bunch of tiny strokes.

4. Would you be willing to collaborate with a company/blog to raise awareness for women’s health or other issues?
Definitely! Yumnah Najah Designs is not only looking good, but feeling good. It’s so important for women to take care of themselves both inside and out. When you’re healthy and together on the inside, it radiates outwards—that’s true beauty.

5. As you know it’s our BFF Issue so tell us what does a BFF mean to you?
Someone who doesn’t make you apologize for who you are and you feel free to be yourself around.

6. Share a health tip you believe every woman show know.
Pay attention to your body. Its so easy to get caught up with everything else that’s going on with work, school, kids, etc..but you have to listen to your body. If you feel like something is wrong, look into it.

7. Describe a lesson you’ve learned in your teens.
Stretch yourself. I’m learning everyday to go out and do things that I’m not comfortable with. It can be scary to go into a territory that you know nothing about, but that’s how you grow and develop yourself as a person. A quote that I love is: “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” (Neale Walsch)

8. Say 1 thing you like about 24B
I love the vibe I get while reading 24B. The focus isn’t just on fashion and outer beauty, but also encouraging women to develop themselves on the inside as well and be great people all around.
